How to Create a Table in LaTeX
Tables in LaTeX use the tabular environment. For publication-quality tables, use the booktabs package.
Basic Table
Use tabular with column alignment (l, c, r):
\begin{tabular}{|l|c|r|}
\hline
Left & Center & Right \\
\hline
A & B & C \\
D & E & F \\
\hline
\end{tabular}Professional Table (booktabs)
Use booktabs for cleaner tables:
\usepackage{booktabs}
\begin{tabular}{lcc}
\toprule
Method & Precision & Recall \\
\midrule
Baseline & 0.75 & 0.68 \\
Our Method & 0.89 & 0.82 \\
\bottomrule
\end{tabular}Floating Table with Caption
Wrap in table environment for captions and references:
\begin{table}[htbp]
\centering
\caption{Experimental Results}
\label{tab:results}
\begin{tabular}{lcc}
\toprule
Method & Accuracy \\
\midrule
Ours & 94.2\% \\
\bottomrule
\end{tabular}
\end{table}💡 Tips
- •Never use vertical lines in academic tables (use booktabs instead)
- •Use \multicolumn{n}{align}{text} for cells spanning multiple columns
- •Position options: h (here), t (top), b (bottom), p (page)
